LP-3 Low-Power RTU

A powerful solution for low-power monitoring, control, and data logging applications

They might be power misers, but when it comes to performance, our low-power, small RTU products have all the power and features of their larger Kingfisher cousins.

The LP-3 is optimized for the unique conditions associated with low-power installations and features advanced power saving algorithms and techniques. It can be programmed to 'sleep' and shut down all non-essential external devices. When an event occurs, the RTU instantly wakes up and starts processing information. In addition, the LP-3 can be programmed to periodically report internal diagnostic status to verify normal operating conditions.

The Kingfisher LP-3 Low-Power RTU suits a wide range of remote monitoring applications that include environmental monitoring, gas metering, power metering and data logging. It's smart, easy to use, has ladder logic capability and has very flexible I/O and communication ports.

Very low power consumption is achieved using three modes - communicating, scanning, and sleeping. The LP-3 RTU is packaged in a two part plastic enclosure that houses the electronics, communication interfaces, and standby battery.

The LP-3 Low-Power RTU is compatible with the entire family of Kingfisher Series II products and is configured using the same Toolbox software.

Overview

  • Low-power RTU suitable for remote installations
  • Compatible with Series II option boards allow even greater flexibility
  • Auxiliary 12V output can be used to power an external relay for control of peripheral devices such as high power radios
  • Protocol support allows you to interface to a wide variety of systems using Kingfisher, MODBUS, DNP3, ASCII, TRIO, Inline, Omron and many more
  • Can be used stand alone, and is also compatible with the field proven range of Kingfisher Series II

Special Note for LP-1 and LP-2 Users

For users of the Kingfisher LP-1 and LP-2, please note that the LP-3 is completely compatible, including the programming environment.

Features

Very Low power consumption

Less than 1mA while in sleep mode allows the RTU to be used in solar and battery powered configurations.

2 High speed pulse counters

Ideal for counting pulses such as a flow meter

2 Magnetic latch relay outputs

Minimizes power consumption

Up to 4 open-drain outputs

Digital inputs 5-8 are configurable as digital outputs for added flexibility

4 low power analog inputs

(0-5V, can also use 0-20mA)

Up to 4 communications ports

Added flexibility of 4 communications ports.

Event logging

Accurate historical logging of any data values

Capture pictures from on site

Capture images from up to 2 low cost cameras

SMS control using a digital mobile phone

SMS control of outputs and setpoints. Can also send paging messages to a mobile phone with status values and variables

Works with Series II

Can be used stand alone and is also compatible with the field proven Kingfisher Series II range.

Low power operation

  • In sleep mode all I/O and communication devices are powered down and consumption is less than 10mW. In scanning mode the RTU has its I/O active and consumption is around 450mW. In communicating mode the RTU has all communications and I/O devices powered with the power consumption dependent on the activity and type of communication device.
  • In low power applications the RTU should be configured to spend most of its time in sleep mode, some time in scanning mode and very little time in communicating mode. All sleep mode functions are programmable by the user using TOOLBOX Windows software.
